What
is Pyridoxine HCI? Pyridoxine Hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt form
of pyridoxine, a water-soluble vitamin B. Pyridoxine hydrochloride is converted
into the active form, pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (PLP), an essential cofactor in
many enzymatic activities including synthesis of amino acids,
neurotransmitters, and sphingolipids.
History
and Applications of Pyridoxine HCI Pyridoxine was discovered in 1934,
isolated in 1938, and first made in 1939. It is on the World Health
Organization’s List of Essential Medicines. Pyridoxine is available as a
generic medication and over the counter. Foods, such as breakfast cereal have
pyridoxine added in some countries.
Additional
Pyridoxine HCI Information Pyridoxine is in the vitamin B
family of vitamins. It is required by the body to make amino acids,
carbohydrates, and lipids. Sources in the diet include fruit, vegetables, and
grain. It is also required for muscle phosphorylase activity associated with
glycogen metabolism.
